A native of San Francisco, Josh has been working in public education since 1998 when he started teaching elementary and middle school general music and bands. In 2004, he moved to New York City to study at Columbia University, Teachers College. While at Teachers College, he served as the director of student teaching in the department of music and music education and taught graduate students preparing for careers in teaching. For ten years he served as an education consultant, woodwind instructor, and ensemble director in the education department of Jazz at Lincoln Center. For nine years he worked as a teacher and instructional leader in New York City Public Schools in the South Bronx. Josh holds a B.A. in United States History from San Francisco State University, a Master’s in Education from Columbia University, Teachers College, a Master’s in School Leadership and Administration from Fordham University, and a Doctorate in Education from Columbia University, Teachers College. Outside of work Josh enjoys exploring the world with his wife and their two daughters. This is Josh’s third year at Manual and is excited to be a part of rebuilding the school’s instrumental music program.
