Hello Manual Families,
I wanted to write to wish all Manual students and families a happy, safe and restful Spring Break. It was an incredible week at Manual which included three stunning nights of performances of the musical Six from our performing arts department. We also had over 50 students volunteer their time to come in and take a practice SAT test on Friday morning to improve their future options after graduation. Then yesterday we celebrated over 100 (more than 25%) students who were on Honor Roll (a GPA of 3.3 – 3.75), Principal’s List (a GPA of 3.75 – 4.0) and Legacy Excellent List (a GPA above a 4.0). It was a great week to be a T-Bolt! This message will be short and will align us to our priorities after we return from Spring Break.
Priority One – Being Present for State Testing Season: As a reminder, I expect 95% of students take the PSAT/SAT test on Thursday, April 18th. This day is very important for Manual and our students because when students perform well and do their best, it means Manual may be able to get off of the State Accountability Clock in August. Manual and our students have an opportunity to do something historic and it can only happen if all students in 9th – 11th come to school and work their hardest on April, 18th. Juniors also have CMAS testing on Tuesday, April 23rd which is also a place where we can move the needle for kids and for Manual.
Priority Two – Attendance: Manual continues to have the highest attendance growth in the city and I want to make sure we finish the work we’ve started by staying above 85% for quarter four. It is important that kids are present and engaged as much as possible as we head into the end of the year.
Coming Up at Manual:
Saturday, March 23rd – Monday, April 1st: No School – DPS Spring Break
Tuesday, April 2nd: Students and Staff Return from Spring Break
Thursday, April 18th: PSAT / SAT Testing Day for 9th – 11th grade. No school for seniors and early release for students after they finish the test.
Friday, April 19th: No School for Students – Teacher Professional Learning Day.
Saturday, April 20th: Prom from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. – Information to be released via social media and this message after break.
Tuesday, April 23rd: CMAS Testing for 11th grade. Early release for 11th grade after they finish the test.
My Mistake – Incorrect Prom Announcement:
In last week’s parent/guardian communication I incorrectly said that Manual’s Prom was on April, 27th. However, the correct date is on Saturday, April 20th. My apologies for the incorrect communication.
I hope you all have a wonderful Spring Break. I cannot wait to get back to work with your students on Tuesday, April 2nd.
